Pressure Ulcers
Pressure ulcers start with pressure injuries, sometimes referred to as bedsores or decubitus ulcers. They are localized skin and soft tissue injuries that arise from prolonged pressure and shearing forces. They form most commonly over bony prominences. They can also arise from medical or other devices, such as cell phones.
Many factors can increase your risk of developing a diabetic ulcer ulcer, including:
- Immobility
- Prolonged pressure
- Skin moisture
- Poor nutrition
- Anemia
- Sensory neuropathy
- Increased age
- Cognitive impairment
